14 weeks...Here we come!

This week's big developments: Your baby can now squint, frown, grimace, pee, and possibly suck his thumb! Thanks to brain impulses, his facial muscles are getting a workout as his tiny features form one expression after another. His kidneys are producing urine, which he releases into the amniotic fluid around him — a process he'll keep up until birth. He can grasp, too, and if you're having an ultrasound now, you may even catch him sucking his thumb. In other news: Your baby's stretching out. From head to bottom, he measures 3 1/2 inches — about the size of a lemon . His body's growing faster than his head, which now sits upon a more distinct neck. By the end of this week, his arms will have grown to a length that's in proportion to the rest of his body. (His legs still have some lengthening to do.) He's starting to develop an ultra-fine, downy covering of hair, called lanugo, all over his body. Your baby's liver starts making bile this week — a sign that it's doing its job right — and his spleen starts helping in the production of red blood cells.

Hello Second Trimester!

We are now 13 weeks pregnant!

The baby has grown to about 3 inches long.
Bone is beginning to replace cartilage and the ribs are appearing.
The nose and chin are well defined.
Movements can be measured.
The baby will begin to learn to suck its thumb.
The baby can open and close its mouth.
The external genitalia are well defined making it is possible to determine the baby's gender.

The baby is now producing insulin the hormone that controls their blood glucose.

Unique fingerprints are already in place. Muscles lengthen and become organized.

The first three months were period of rapid development, next three months will be period of rapid growth. Babies quadruple weight during the 4th month.

Today's Craving...

Orange Crush with Pellet Ice....in preferably a styrofoam cup with a fat straw. Now as a disclaimer, because I have a craving it doesn't mean I'm actually eating or drinking these items - it probably means I'm craving them because I'm NOT eating or drinking them. Who craves a carrot if they just ate one - right, Betsy M? :) hehe

My Mom is Comparing Me to Butter?

So when the ultrasound technician said the baby weighs 2 oz with a big optimistic smile, I just grinned and nodded like I knew how much that weighed...LOL. So knowing me I had to Google it - "2 oz equals" - and the result that came up - A 1/2 stick of butter! Now I can wrap my mind around the weight of a 1/2 stick of butter! :) Just thought I'd share!

Happy Father's Day!!!

Baby Pea Pod wanted to get Daddy ready for all the sleepless nights with this espresso maker for Father's Day. Daddy couldn't stand not knowing what was in the box so we opened it tonight (Saturday night). hehe. It works great! Daddy is enjoying a Cafe Con Leche as we speak! :) I like the plain steamed milk too!!

12 Weeks Development :)

Let's see what we're doing this week!! :)

The most dramatic development this week: Reflexes. Your baby's fingers will soon begin to open and close, his toes will curl, his eye muscles will clench, and his mouth will make sucking movements. In fact, if you prod your abdomen, your baby will squirm in response, although you won't be able to feel it. His intestines, which have grown so fast that they protrude into the umbilical cord, will start to move into his abdominal cavity about now, and his kidneys will begin excreting urine into his bladder. Meanwhile, nerve cells are multiplying rapidly, and in your baby's brain, synapses are forming furiously. His face looks unquestionably human: His eyes have moved from the sides to the front of his head, and his ears are right where they should be. From crown to rump, your baby-to-be is just over two inches long, about the size of a lime, and weighs half an ounce.

A lime, really? Wow.

11 Weeks Today!

Wow...time is flying by!! See what is happening this week! :)

At this stage all the parts of the baby are well formed though very tiny in shape and size. The bones begin to harden but the skin remains thin and transparent. The baby is around 2 1/2 inches long and half an ounce in weight. The baby is now able to swallow and the urinary system functions well at this stage. The important organs are all well formed by now and function normally. From this week the organs will grow in size and start functioning more efficiently. The growth of the baby is phenomenal now and the length is expected to double in the following three weeks. The placenta's blood vessels increase and provide the baby with the nutrients and oxygen required for rapid growth. Tiny tooth buds start appearing under the baby’s gums though each baby develops a little differently. The baby will be able to open and close its fist and will be busy kicking and stretching in the stomach. As the baby’s diaphragm develops he might develop hiccups but you may not feel the movements till a slightly advanced stage.

Today's Craving...

When I heard that today is National Doughnut Day my mind immediately fixated on yummy chocolate covered goodness! It's a good thing to support Holidays, right? :)

Nice Weekend!

We went to see Indiana Jones this weekend. Victor's work requested that we go so that they could all talk freely about the movie..hehe. It was pretty good! We enjoyed it!

We also took Suki for a nice long walk at the Aboretum. It's a beautiful (and free!) place to relax and take a nice walk! The path around the Aborteum is 2 miles.

It was a great weekend!
